Microchipping for Cats
We strongly recommend microchip implantation for all animals. These safe and inexpensive chips dramatically increase the chances of being reunited in the event your pet is lost. At Westchester Veterinary Center, we can microchip your dog or cat during their annual exam. Microchips are tiny, unalterable identifiers for your pet. Microchip implantation is a simple procedure, and no anesthesia is required.
Cats Need to Be Microchipped Too!
If your pet was rescued from a shelter or adopted from another owner, we can also perform a quick check to see if a chip has already been implanted. This unique identifier will allow the owner to be contacted as soon as possible to ensure that your pet comes home safely.
In addition to performing recoveries, many microchip manufacturers have recovery support available around that clock that will proactively search for pets as soon as they are reported missing. For more information and answers to frequently asked questions, please visit the AVMA’s website. Another helpful website is the Pet Microchip Lookup which reunites owners of lost pets based on the microchip number.
