At Westchester Veterinary Center, it is important to us to provide individual, compassionate surgical care for all of our patients. We will communicate with you every step of the way to keep you fully informed about your pet before, during, and after their surgery. Our veterinarians will address any questions or concerns you may have regarding the techniques used during surgery, pain management, postoperative care.

Surgeries performed at our hospital include:

  • Spay
  • Neuter
  • Growth removal or tumor biopsy
  • Laceration repair
  • Urinary bladder surgery & stone removal
  • Abdominal exploratory surgery
  • Oral surgery (tooth extractions)
  • Cesarean section
  • Emergency surgery (e.g. foreign object retrieval, wound repair, others as needed)

Before Surgery

Before surgery, your pet will be screened and anesthetics will be hand-selected depending on your pet’s breed, age, health, and other factors. Blood tests will also be done before any anesthesia is given to confirm that your pet’s liver, heart, and kidneys are functioning properly and that your pet is a good candidate for anesthesia.

During Surgery

During surgery, we have a medically trained staff member solely keeping an eye on your pet’s vitals. Their main priority is monitoring your pet’s blood pressure, heart rate and rhythm, respiratory functions, body temperature, and maintaining proper oxygen levels for your pet.

After Surgery

Communication is an important part of the surgery process. Our staff will ensure that we have the most up to date contact information on file when you drop off your pet. We will keep you fully informed about your pet’s surgery, progress, and recovery. If necessary, the comprehensive pain management plan may include at-home pain medication to keep them as comfortable as possible. Our staff will walk you through every step and explain everything you need to know for post-surgery care at home.

If you have questions regarding our surgical procedures and protocols, please call us today to speak with one of our staff members.
